My Quilling Story

This is the story of how I began quilling...

Way back in high school I had a teacher that made quilled snowflake ornaments with us only she didn’t call it quilling, she called it “scrolling.”  So I made the ornament and my mom has hung it on our Christmas tree every year since.  Years later while I was in college I thought of the ornament and wanted to make another so I went to Hobby Lobby and asked if they had any supplies for “scrolling” and the lady there looked at me like I was crazy.  So I forgot about it for a while.  Then a few years later after graduating college and becoming a teacher, I was walking through our teacher store, United Art and Education, and a package of multi-colored paper strips caught my eye.  The package said, “Quilling Paper,”  and there were a couple basic kits there too.  I bought the pack of paper and the “Pretty Posies” kit by Lake City Crafts.  I went home, make everything in the kit in one day and set it all aside.  A year or so after that, I found the few flowers I made and decided I wanted to do more.  I Googled “quilling” and the rest is pretty much history.  I found quillingsuperstore.com, ordered Alli Bartkowski’s “Paper Quilling for the First Time,” some mulit-colored paper packs, and some tools.  From that moment on, I was hooked!  I made some of the cards and projects in Alli’s book and then ordered three of the Lake City Craft ABC Sampler kits to make for three new babies in my family and I haven’t stopped since.  

 

I hope I've inspired you to keep on quillin' or to get back into it if you've set it aside for a while.  My story spans over 10 years and I just hate to think of everything I could have quilled if I had known more about quilling from the get go.  As it is though, quilling has been my passion for the past four years and I wouldn't change a thing about it!
